Mental Health Therapist 

Purpose: To provide treatment supports necessary to aid appropriate adolescents/youth groups and their support structure. The Therapist will participate in activities of the organization such as individual and family evaluations, individual and family assessments, and crisis intervention services.

Qualifications: The Therapist must have a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Social Science, and human Services. The Therapist must, at a minimum, be a graduate of a college or university with a Master’s degree in a human service field and has one year of full-time, post-graduate degree accumulated behavioral health experience with the population served. The Therapist must have sufficient individual competence, professional qualifications and experience to provide service coordination: crisis assessment and intervention; symptom assessment and management; individual counseling and psychotherapy, monitoring and documentation; substance abuse treatment; work-related services; activities of daily living services’ social, interpersonal relationship and leisure-time activity services’ support services or direct assistance to ensure that individuals obtain the basic necessities of daily life; and education, support and consultation of individual’s families and other major supports.

General Responsibilities:

  • Ensure completion of clinical documentation to provide timely delivery of services
  • Provide structured face-to-face scheduled therapeutic interventions to provide support and guidance in all areas of functional domains: adaptive, communication, personal care, domestic, psychosocial, problem solving, etc. in preventing, overcoming, or managing the recipient’s level of functioning and enhancing his/her ability to remain in the community.
  • Provide a variety of strengths based and focused interventions that address the functional problems associated with the most complex and/or pervasive conditions of the identified population that will increase the recipient’s ability to cope and relate to others and enhancing the highest level of functioning in the community.
  • Able to develop the diagnosis of consumers with all five axes of DSM-IV
  • Completes the initial psychiatric assessments including the development of treatment plans and recommendations; provides routine evaluations of service delivery and progress pertinent to behavioral interventions and modification
  • Conducts family and individual therapy as appropriate
  • Responsible for effectively developing documentation with 24 hours of service delivery. Documentation must include a Minimum standard is a daily full service note that includes the consumer’s name, Medicaid identification number, date of service, purpose of contact, describes the provider’s interventions, includes the time spent performing the interventions, effectiveness of the intervention, and the signature of the staff providing the service.
  • Participates in the Peer Review Committee of the organization as required.
  • Work collaboratively with and provide ongoing updates to the Program Director, Clinical Director, Medical Director.
  • Identify, establish, and continually collaborate with community agencies, providers, and natural supports.
  • Provide learning opportunities, information, and resources to staff on how to accomplish goals in new, different and challenging ways.
  • Listen/respond to; interact with clients, co-workers, management, and other professionals in a non-judgment manner.
  • Communicate objectively, thoroughly, accurately, concisely in a manner consistent with the cognitive level of the persons involved.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and acceptance of the organizational mission and shared purpose to assist individuals by providing quality services.
  • Participate in efforts to enhance service provision to consumers.
  • Act and interact to build cohesiveness
  • Assist with building a positive image for the agency by demonstrating support and cooperation with other units and community agencies.
  • Demonstrate professional work ethics as evidenced by overall dependability, conscientiousness, and timeliness.
  • Act as liaison with service providers, natural, and community supports.
  • Notify the provider’s staff psychiatrist of any significant change in a recipient’s physical or mental status.

Conditions of Employment

-Satisfactory Background Investigation

-Valid driver’s license and proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage

-CPR/First Aid Certification

-Willingness to successfully complete service-specific training courses

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to drive, stand and walk. In addition, the employee may be required to restrain a client.
